Keith Kuester

Keith Kuester is a Professor of Economics at the University of Bonn, where he is affiliated with the Institute for Macroeconomics and Econometrics. He serves as a Principal Investigator in the Bonn-Cologne Research Cluster 'ECONtribute' and is a member of the Collaborative Research Center TR 224 'Economic Perspectives on Societal Challenges.' Additionally, he is a Research Affiliate at the Centre for Economic Policy Research and co-editor of the International Journal of Central Banking.

Dr. Kuester holds an MSc in Financial Economics and Econometrics from the University of Essex and a doctorate (Dr. rer. Pol.) from Goethe University Frankfurt. Before joining the University of Bonn in 2012, he spent four years at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia and two years as an economist at the European Central Bank, giving him valuable central banking experience that informs his research.

His primary research focuses on Macroeconomics and Monetary Economics, with special emphasis on the distributional effects of stabilization policies. His work spans several critical areas including monetary policy transmission mechanisms, fiscal policy effectiveness during crises, international macroeconomic linkages, and the interaction between financial markets and the real economy. Dr. Kuester frequently employs dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) models and other quantitative methods to analyze economic policy questions.

Dr. Kuester has established a strong publication record in top economics journals including the American Economic Review, Journal of Monetary Economics, Economic Journal, and IMF Economic Review. His recent work has examined the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, distributional consequences of monetary policy across different income groups, exchange rate puzzles, and federal unemployment reinsurance systems.

As an educator, Dr. Kuester teaches courses on monetary theory and policy at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including 'Geldtheorie und Politik' for Bachelor students and 'BGSE Macroeconomics I' for PhD students. He actively supervises Bachelor's and Master's theses, encouraging students to pursue research topics aligned with their interests within monetary economics, macroeconomics, and econometrics.

His collaborative research extends across international boundaries, with frequent co-authorship with economists from institutions worldwide. Dr. Kuester is particularly active in research networks focused on monetary policy and macroeconomic stability, contributing to policy discussions through his academic work and affiliations with major economic research organizations.
