Keith I. McShan is an Assistant Professor in the School of Health Sciences at Missouri State University (MSU), joining in 2022. His research focuses on the coach-athlete relationship, achievement goal perspectives, and cultural competence in sport. He holds a PhD in Exercise and Sport Sciences (Wayne State University, 2022), an MS in Sports Management (Eastern Michigan University, 2013), and a BHK with Honors in Business Administration (University of Windsor, 2011).
McShan previously coached high school basketball and football in Canada and worked with organizations like Football Canada and Duke University Men’s Basketball Camp. He is a member of the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity (NASPSPA) and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP). As the Exercise Science Society (ESS) faculty advisor, he emphasizes mentorship and interdisciplinary collaboration.
His research explores pandemic impacts on coach-athlete dynamics, barriers faced by coaches during crises, and systemic approaches to cultural competence. His recent work synthesizes global perspectives on coaching relationships through systematic reviews and qualitative studies.

Teaching: Courses include Research Project, Principles of Sports Management, Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity, and Health and Wellness Promotion.
