Keith Bennett is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Warwick, leading the development of critical plasma physics simulation codes including EPOCH, SWIFT, and Odin. His work focuses on creating open-source computational tools for the global plasma physics research community.
His research spans Plasma Physics, Computational Physics, and specialized areas including Particle-in-Cell Simulations, Magnetohydrodynamics, and Radiation-Hydrodynamics. He maintains EPOCH—a Birdsall and Langdon type PIC code in 1D/2D/3D written in Fortran95/MPI—which has become a standard tool with several hundred registered users. Current projects include SWIFT (spherical MHD for solar wind simulation under EU Horizon 2020 funding) and Odin (Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian Radiation-Hydrodynamics for high energy density plasma studies).
Bennett's EU Horizon 2020-funded SWIFT development contributes to operational space-weather forecasting systems. He coordinates cross-institutional code development efforts, emphasizing open collaboration and extensibility in plasma simulation frameworks.
