Keith Ball is a distinguished mathematician holding the rank of Professor at the University of Edinburgh. He has held academic positions at institutions including Texas A&M University, University College London (including the Astor Professorship from 2006), the University of Warwick, and concurrently served as Director of the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS) in Edinburgh from 2010 to 2014. His research focuses on convex geometry, high-dimensional and discrete geometry, information theory, and functional analysis.
Ball’s academic journey began with a PhD from the University of Cambridge under Béla Bollobás. He has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Whitehead Prize, Royal Society Fellowship, and an invitation to speak at the 2022 International Congress of Mathematicians. He has held visiting roles at institutions such as MIT, the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques, and the Institute Henri Poincaré.
His scholarly contributions span pure mathematics, with a particular emphasis on geometric inequalities and applications of probabilistic methods in geometry. Ball has also contributed to interdisciplinary areas linking information theory with mathematical analysis.
