Dr. Kebreten Manaye is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Physiology & Biophysics at Howard University's College of Medicine. She leads cutting-edge research on neurological and neurodegenerative diseases linked to brain aging, using human and animal models. As Principal Investigator at NeuroTech Harbor, she directs the Pathways program, fostering neurotechnology innovation among underrepresented groups. She previously served as Director of Graduate Studies, implementing strategies to enhance minority student access to STEM.
Her leadership roles include President of the Association of Chairs of Physiology Departments (2023) and Past-President of the same organization. She is also MPI of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative's Neurodegenerative Computational Fellows Program and has NIH funding from the Institute of Aging. Dr. Manaye combines research excellence with advocacy for diversity, mentorship, and equitable academic access in neurotechnology and physiology.
Her work spans neurotechnology development, computational approaches to neurodegenerative diseases, and educational equity initiatives. She actively mentors early-career scientists and champions inclusive practices in medical education.
