Joanne Stacey Allard serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology & Biophysics at Howard University's College of Medicine, where she directs graduate studies and leads NIH-funded mentorship initiatives for underrepresented minorities in aging research.
Her educational background includes a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, a Ph.D. in Physiology & Biophysics, and postdoctoral training in Metabolic Mechanisms of Longevity at the National Institute on Aging/NIH, all from Howard University.
Dr. Allard's research employs immunocytochemistry, stereology, molecular techniques, and behavioral testing to investigate how gene polymorphisms influence age-related neurological decline and modulate neuroprotective effects of exercise, diet, and nutraceuticals on cognitive/motor function and neuroanatomy.
She actively mentors through the NIH-NIA funded program to increase minority engagement in aging science careers while developing translational approaches for preventing neurodegenerative conditions.
