Dr Ke Yuan is a Lecturer in Computing Science at the University of Glasgow, where he leads the Kyuanlab research group since 2016. He previously worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute (2013-2016) after completing his PhD at the University of Southampton (2013) under Mahesan Niranjan.
- University of Glasgow (2016–present): Lecturer in Computing Science
- Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute (2013–2016): Postdoctoral Research Fellow
- University of Southampton (2009–2013): PhD in Computational Science
His research focuses on applying artificial intelligence and machine learning to medical imaging and cancer genomics, with recent work spanning single-cell image generation, histopathology analysis, and viral evolution modeling. He develops computational frameworks like PathologyGAN and BitPhylogeny for cancer tissue representation and tumor phylogeny reconstruction.
Key publication trends include:
- AI-driven histomorphological pattern discovery in mesothelioma, colon cancer, and squamous cell carcinoma
- Protein language models for virus-host association and evolutionary trajectory prediction
- Deep learning approaches for osteosarcoma survival and SARS-CoV-2 mutation analysis
Dr Yuan supervises students including Alkan Muhammet, Fu Junchen, and Wang Jie, while securing grants from Cancer Research UK (2024–2028) and BBSRC (2022–2025) for projects in radiomic classifiers and viral vaccine design. His lab collaborates with virologists David L. Robertson and Florian Markowetz on cross-disciplinary cancer and pathogen research.
