Kazuhiko YAGO is a Professor at Waseda University's Faculty of Commerce, specializing in Economic History and International Financial History. His academic journey includes a docteur en histoire from Université Paris X (1996), MA in Economics from Yokohama National University (1986), and BA from the University of Tokyo (1992). He has led extensive research on international financial institutions, particularly the OECD, IMF, and Bank for International Settlements (BIS), focusing on policy evolution, crisis management, and cross-border economic thought.
His research interests center on International Financial History and comparative economic systems, examining monetary cooperation, development finance, and historical institutional dynamics. Key projects include studies on the Wicksellian Tradition at BIS, OECD's role in post-war monetary systems, and historical structures of Northeast Asian financial infrastructure. He has directed JSPS-funded research on World Bank lending, OECD working groups, and Euro-currency markets.
YAGO's scientific awards include Le Prix Shibusawa-Claudel (2000), recognizing his contributions to Franco-Japanese historical studies. He has served as Executive Director of the Socio-Economic History Society (2015–present) and held leadership roles in the Political Economy and Economic History Society. His teaching spans graduate and undergraduate courses in European Economic History and Policy Evaluation at Waseda University.
He has published 16 peer-reviewed articles and 6 monographs, including The Financial History of the Bank for International Settlements (Routledge, 2012) and History of the IMF: Organization, Policy and Market (Springer, 2015). Current projects (2023–2028) analyze energy crises and global debt structures through historical economic linkages.
