Kazim Ali is a Professor of Literature at the University of California, San Diego, and former Chair of the Literature Department (2021–2024). He is a multidisciplinary writer, poet, translator, and founder of Nightboat Books, a literary press. His work spans poetry, fiction, memoir, and literary criticism, focusing on themes of migration, identity, and environmental justice.
Ali’s research interests include Creative Writing, Indigenous Studies, Global Anglophone Literature, and Translation Studies. His acclaimed book *Northern Light* (2021) earned the Banff Mountain Environmental Book Award. He has also published widely in hybrid genres, such as *Silver Road* (essays and maps) and *Inquisition* (poetry).
Awarded the Ohioana Book Award and recognized in *Best American Poetry*, his literary contributions blend scholarly rigor with artistic innovation. Beyond academia, he has danced with the Cocoon Theatre Modern Dance Company and contributed to literary journals like *American Poetry Review*.
