Kay Yeoman is Professor of Science Communication in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of East Anglia, where she serves as APVC Education Systems and Technologies. A molecular microbiologist by training, her research now focuses on pedagogical innovation, including research-led teaching and school-university partnerships.
She holds a BSc in Applied Biology from John Moores University (1989) and a PhD from the University of Liverpool (1992), with postdoctoral fellowships at UEA and the Institute of Food Research.
Yeoman's research explores science communication strategies, transitions between educational stages, and skills development. Her pedagogical work investigates student feedback efficacy, outreach impacts, and curriculum design, supported by grants from the Higher Education Academy and UKRI. She developed novel approaches to integrating research into classroom experiences through the RCUK-funded School-University Partnerships project.
Her publications reflect dual expertise in microbiology and education research, with recent work addressing higher education challenges during COVID-19 and innovations in biological science pedagogy. She has authored textbooks synthesizing complex scientific concepts for diverse learners.
Yeoman directs PhD projects at the intersection of science and education and serves as Governor of Norwich School. Her administrative leadership includes roles as Director of Admissions and Disability Liaison Officer in Biological Sciences.
