Kay Hearn is an Honorary Lecturer at the School of Arts and Humanities, Edith Cowan University (ECU). She holds a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Canberra (2008). Her research focuses on Chinese media, internet governance, cybersecurity, and cultural studies with an emphasis on digital activism, propaganda, and identity politics.
Her work spans academic articles and conference publications, analyzing topics like internet rumors in China, queer identity formation, and the evolution of digital culture. She has supervised research students on themes such as China’s media framing of educational policies and crisis management during the melamine scandal and the pandemic.
Dr. Hearn’s contributions bridge media studies, cybersecurity, and sociopolitical analysis, offering critical insights into China’s digital landscape and its global implications. Her research highlights intersections between technology, governance, and cultural expression.
