Kay Duffy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Asian Studies at the University of British Columbia, specializing in premodern Sinitic poetry. Her research focuses on the intersection of poetics, historiography, and court cultures within the premodern sinographic sphere. She holds a Ph.D. in East Asian Studies from Princeton University (2019) and an M.A. in Chinese Literature from the University of Colorado Boulder (2012).
Her current research examines literary texts composed and presented at court banquets during seasonal festivals in early medieval China (200–600 CE), exploring how these works negotiated social and political instability. This work has been supported by prestigious fellowships including FLAS, Fulbright, and Princeton's Center for the Study of Religion.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on premodern East Asian literature and culture. She is affiliated with the Asian Centre (office 405) and contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives in Asian Studies.
