Dr. Kay Boers is a Lecturer in Ancient and Medieval History at Utrecht University's Department of History and Art History (Faculty of Humanities). He specializes in Late Antiquity, focusing on cultural interactions, material culture reuse, and textual reception in the Post-Roman World. His research explores Hispano-Visigothic Iberia, Byzantium, and Early Islamic contexts, with a current emphasis on the 'Global Seventh-Century' and 'Rewriting the City' projects examining urban space and cultural erasure.
Research Leadership: Organizing the 2025 'Connecting Constantinople' workshop (Istanbul), co-chaired with Dr. Rolf Strootman. Affiliated with the Utrecht Centre for Medieval Studies and the Toletum Network for Iberian Antiquity research.
Publications: Edited Erasure in Late Antiquity (Trivent Publishing, 2024, Open Access). Current projects include a monograph on Hispano-Visigothic civic rhetoric derived from his 2024 NWO-funded PhD thesis.
Affiliations: Member of Utrecht's Institutions for Open Societies (IOS) research group and the Dutch National Research School in Classical Studies (OIKOS).
