Kaveh Askari is a Professor and Director of the Film Studies Program at Michigan State University's College of Arts & Letters. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Chicago (2005 and 1999) and a B.A. from New College of Florida (1998). His academic leadership includes roles on the Domitor executive committee, film festival juries, and co-chairing conferences and caucuses.

Professor Askari specializes in global cinema history, focusing on art cinema, media circulation, and cinemas of the Middle East and North Africa. His work explores intersections between film and other arts, transregional media histories, and postcolonial film practices. Current research is reflected in his recent book Relaying Cinema in Midcentury Iran (2022).
Scientific recognition includes the prestigious Katherine Singer Kovács Book Award (2023) for outstanding cinema research. He has collaborated on film programs with institutions like the Pacific Film Archive, Il Cinema Ritrovato, and Doha Film Institute.
