Dr. Kaushal Bhavsar is a Researcher in Offshore Renewable Energy at the University of Hull's School of Engineering, part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering. He holds a PhD in Engineering from The Robert Gordon University (2016), MSc in Nanotechnology and Nanoelectronic Devices from the University of Surrey (2011), and BEng in Electronics and Communication from Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University. Prior to academia, he worked in consumer electronics for 5 years.
His research focuses on fiber optic sensors, surface plasmon resonance sensors, and nanomaterials for applications in environmental monitoring, medical technology, and offshore renewable energy systems. Current work emphasizes fiber optic sensing systems for offshore energy structures. He contributes to the Renewable Energy and Storage Technologies Group and teaches modules on Embedded Systems (601071) and Smart Grids (661959).
He led a £3,963.20 EPSRC-funded project (2021–2022) on dynamic cable monitoring in floating offshore wind turbines. His recent publications analyze epoxy resin curing processes using fiber gratings and robust fiber optic sensor configurations for composite structures.
