Assoc. Prof. Dr. Katya Tzocheva (alternatively spelled Tsocheva in publications) is a faculty member at the Institute of Animal Sciences under the Agricultural Academy, affiliated with the Department of Genetics. Her research spans three core areas in farm animal genetics: cytogenetics, biochemical polymorphism, and quantitative genetics.
Her scientific focus includes the application of molecular markers to assess genetic diversity in cattle and sheep populations, statistical analyses of quantitative traits in farm animals and honey plants, and cytogenetic studies of chromosomal translocations in pigs. Recent work emphasizes microsatellite markers in sheep breeding and sustainable agricultural practices.
Key collaborations include projects with the University of Forestry and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Publications from 2007–2011 cover topics such as nucleotide metabolism in calves, probiotic effects on livestock, and plant-pollinator dynamics.
