Katya Krylova

Katya Krylova is a Senior Lecturer in German, Film, and Visual Culture at the University of Aberdeen since 2018. Previously, she held positions at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute in Vienna, University of Nottingham (Leverhulme Fellow), King’s College London, and University of Birmingham. She specializes in modern/Austrian literature, film, and memory studies, particularly exploring Austria’s engagement with its Nazi past.

Research Interests
Her work focuses on cultural memory of WWII, topography in literature, and contemporary Austrian cultural production. Key areas include:
- Nazi legacy in literature/film
- Ingeborg Bachmann and Thomas Bernhard analyses
- Wehrmacht deserters in modern narratives
Publications
Her monographs *The Long Shadow of the Past* (CHOICE Award, 2017) and *Walking Through History* (Peter Lang Prize, 2013) are seminal works. She has edited volumes on Austrian literature and Bernhard studies.
