Katy Wareham Morris is a Senior Lecturer in Media & Film Studies, Course Leader for Media & Culture, and Head of the English, Media and Culture Department at the University of Worcester's Institute of Arts and Humanities. Her work bridges academia and industry, focusing on digital technologies' impact on media, marginalized identities, and experimental creative practices.
Education: Currently completing a PhD in literary gaming, play, and post-queer politics (critical/creative). Holds a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education and Training.
Research explores digital spaces' role in shaping identities, artivism through poetry/performance, and media representations challenging hegemonic narratives. Her poetry, exploring vulnerability and social justice, is published by award-winning presses and endorsed by leading UK poets.
Teaching includes modules on Digital Cultures (algorithms/NFTs), Social Media Activism, Immersive Media (Metaverse), and Screen Studies analyzing marginalized identities. She pioneered gamified pedagogy, including 'escape room' classrooms, and organizes employability events linking students to creative industries.
Awards: Recognized for innovative teaching and HEA Fellowship. Industry experience includes digital marketing and co-founding the Women’s Equality Party, which informs her career guidance for students.
Labs/Teams: Oversees work placements across the department and leads the MA English Professional Development module. Her research lab integrates critical theory with creative practice, focusing on literary gaming and intersectional activism.
