Katy Faulkner

Dr. Katy Faulkner is a Research Fellow in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with both the Conservation Research Institute and the Centre for Landscape Regeneration. Her work focuses on ecosystem responses to global environmental changes through rigorous experimental frameworks.

Her research centers on soil carbon dynamics and microbial community interactions under climate stressors, with expertise spanning temperate/tropical forests, boreal peatlands, and freshwater systems. She employs long-term climate manipulation experiments to investigate warming, elevated CO₂, and precipitation shifts, currently examining soil organic matter persistence in East Anglian fenlands with emphasis on organo-mineral carbon stabilization mechanisms. This work bridges fundamental ecology with practical landscape regeneration strategies.

As an active Conservation Research Institute member, she contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives addressing climate adaptation through soil science, with her fenland farm network research providing critical insights for carbon sequestration in agricultural landscapes.
