Katrina Schrode

Katrina Schrode, PhD, serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science's College of Medicine, with adjunct faculty appointments in the Physician Assistant program under the College of Science and Health. Her research addresses systemic health disparities through community-engaged interventions targeting marginalized populations.

Dr. Schrode's research spans mental health, behavioral interventions, and health equity with emphasis on HIV/STI prevention, substance use disorders, and food insecurity. She develops culturally tailored programs for Black and Latino communities, particularly sexual minority men and justice-involved populations, examining how structural factors like incarceration and neighborhood environments impact health outcomes.

Analysis of her recent publications reveals sustained focus on PrEP adoption barriers, pandemic-related health disruptions, and racial disparities in metabolic liver disease. Her methodological approach combines randomized trials, longitudinal analyses, and community-based participatory research to translate findings into actionable public health strategies.

Dr. Schrode mentors PA students and serves on the UHI Statistical Research Design & Methodology Core, providing statistical support for health disparities research. She teaches research methodology courses and collaborates extensively on projects addressing social determinants of health through interdisciplinary partnerships.
