Katrina Koehler is an Assistant Professor of Physics at Houghton University, where she combines teaching with advancing diversity in STEM. Her research focuses on using cryogenic detectors for nuclear safeguards, nonproliferation, and fundamental physics. She collaborates with institutions like Los Alamos National Laboratory and NIST, specializing in data analysis and algorithm development for neutron multiplicity and decay energy spectroscopy.
Education: BS in Mathematics/Physics (Houghton College), MA and PhD in Physics (Western Michigan University), with a dissertation on electron capture spectral theory. She teaches courses including Data Science, Modern Physics, and Quantum Mechanics.
Research: Koehler’s work centers on microcalorimeter-based gamma spectroscopy for isotopic analysis, radiation detection systems, and improving nondestructive assay techniques. Her projects address challenges in nuclear material quantification and safeguards validation.
