Dr. Camille Palmer is an Associate Professor and Associate School Head of the School of Nuclear Science and Engineering at Oregon State University, concurrently serving as Deputy Director for NNSA's Consortium for Nuclear Forensics, with expertise in national security challenges within the nuclear domain.
Her educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Nuclear and Radiological Engineering from the University of Cincinnati (2003)
- M.S. in Health Physics from the University of Cincinnati (1999)
- B.S. in Radiation Health Physics from Oregon State University (1997)
Dr. Palmer's research centers on international nuclear security and nonproliferation through collaborations with AI/ML, cybersecurity, and public policy experts. Her work addresses critical challenges in nuclear forensics, arms control verification, and safeguards implementation.
Key initiatives include developing digital twins for safeguards using MOOSE framework, information barriers for arms control verification via machine learning, advanced Monte Carlo simulations for radiation transport, and nuclear forensic analysis of historical uranium samples including WWII German cubes.
Her recent scholarly output includes a 2023 review on nondestructive assay methods for safeguards monitoring, highlighting advancements in nuclear material accounting and radiation detection technologies.
Dr. Palmer secures research funding from Consortium for Nuclear Forensics, Sandia National Lab, Idaho National Laboratory, and NNSA PSAAP program, collaborating with Los Alamos, Pacific Northwest, and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories on nuclear security projects.
