Katrin Schroeter is an Associate Professor in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of New Mexico, specializing in German cinema and its cultural-historical context. She serves as Director of Graduate Studies and academic advisor for the German program, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in German language, literature, and film.

- M.A. in German Studies (Brown University, 1988)
- Staatsexamen in German Language and Literature (Wilhelm-Pieck-University Rostock, 1985)
Her research focuses on representations of national identity in German films after WWII, particularly examining cinematic border crossings and their role in shaping collective memory. She has led the German Summer School in Taos (2004) and taken sabbatical leave for research in Germany (2004-2005).
Teaching includes courses on:
- German cinema theory and practice
- Weimar Republic culture and literature
- East German Democratic Republic (DDR) cultural production
- Post-unification German cultural identity
