Katrien DEROEY

Katrien DEROEY is an Assistant Professor in Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching at the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, University of Luxembourg. She is also a Senior Research Scientist in the research unit 'Identités, Politiques, Sociétés, Espaces' (IPSE) and serves as Head of English at the university's language centre. She teaches in the BA English Studies program and contributes to linguistics and EAP education.

Her research focuses on lecture discourse, English Medium Instruction (EMI), and lecturer training, with a methodological emphasis on corpus linguistics. She aims to develop authentic EAP listening materials and improve academic communication training. Her work also explores multilingual course design for academic speaking and writing, reflecting a commitment to inclusive and effective pedagogical practices in multilingual higher education contexts.

Dr. Deroey is particularly interested in supervising PhD candidates in corpus linguistics, EMI, EAP, metadiscourse, and lecture discourse. Given her interdisciplinary background in theoretical linguistics, applied linguistics, and speech and language pathology, she is open to a wide range of related PhD topics. Her prior teaching experience spans universities in Belgium, the UK, and Vietnam, enriching her cross-cultural academic perspective.

She is actively engaged in research and teaching, with no indication of part-time status or retirement. Her institutional roles reflect a strong commitment to both pedagogical innovation and scholarly inquiry in applied linguistics.
