Professor Katja Mombaur is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Waterloo and former Canada Excellence Research Chair in Human-Centred Robotics and Machine Intelligence. Her research focuses on developing motion-intelligent robots that interact safely with humans, leveraging mathematical modeling for assistive devices like exoskeletons. She leads research in the RoboHub, emphasizing human-centric robotics and machine intelligence.
Education:
- Doctorate in Applied Mathematics (Dr. rer. nat.), Heidelberg University, Germany (2001)
- Diploma (Master's equivalent) in Aerospace Engineering, University of Stuttgart, Germany (1995)
Research Interests: Human-robot interaction, wearable and humanoid robots, rehabilitation robotics, intelligent assistive devices, and optimal control. Her work integrates AI with human movement analysis to design assistive technologies for the elderly and disabled.
Teaching: Taught ME 780 - Special Topics in Mechatronics in 2022.
