Katja Kuusisto is a Professor and Leader of the TRANSFORM Research Platform at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Tampere University, specializing in Social Work with a focus on substance abuse treatment, therapeutic relationships, and university pedagogy. She holds an adjunct professorship in Social Work at the University of Jyväskylä.
Her research emphasizes substance abuse treatment effectiveness, recovery processes, client-therapist dynamics, and digital service development in healthcare. Key projects include analyzing client segmentation in service planning, exploring social workers' perceptions of gambling-related challenges, and evaluating the impact of Finland's health and social services reform.
She has secured funding from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, Finnish Foundation for Alcohol Studies, and the Academy of Finland. Her work spans over 60 publications, focusing on addiction recovery, policy reform, and educational practices in social work. She leads research groups like TreAdd and contributes to academic journals such as Nordic Studies on Alcohol and Drugs and Substance Abuse Treatment, Prevention, and Policy.
