Prof. Dr.-Ing. Katja Gutsche is a Full Professor at Furtwangen University in the Faculty of Engineering Management since 2016. She serves as Program Manager for "Innovation Engineering" (M.Sc.), International Representative for Faculty I, and Rectorate Representative for Deutschlandstipendium. Her academic journey includes being a Visiting Professor at Alfred University/USA (2011-2016), Professor in Industrial Services and Dean of Studies at Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences, and Research Associate at the German Aerospace Center.
Her educational background includes a Doctorate in Engineering from Technical University of Braunschweig (2009), studies in Industrial Engineering with specialization in Production from TU Ilmenau and École nationale supérieure de physique de Strasbourg, and professional experience at Continental AG. She completed her doctoral work at the Technical University of Braunschweig while serving as a Research Associate at the German Aerospace Center.
Professor Gutsche's research focuses on the intersection of engineering asset management, service technologies, and human factors in industrial services. Her work explores how digital transformation impacts service operations, particularly in maintenance and asset management contexts. She investigates the balance between technological innovation and human performance, examining how smart tools and information systems affect service quality and technician experience. Her research demonstrates strong connections between theoretical frameworks and practical industrial applications, with particular relevance to railway infrastructure and manufacturing sectors.
Her recent publications show a clear trajectory toward increasingly sophisticated applications of digital technologies in service contexts, including neural network applications for predicting equipment behavior and comprehensive failure detection systems. She has made significant contributions to understanding how information digitalization impacts asset availability and how smart tools can enhance service quality.
