Katja Castryck-Naumann

Dr. Katja Castryck-Naumann serves as Junior group leader and research associate at the Leibniz Institute for the History and Culture of Eastern Europe (GWZO) in Leipzig, where she has worked since 2017 in Department III "Interconnections and Globalization" and coordinates early career researchers since 2020.

Educational background:

• Studied history, political science, and philosophy at Leipzig, Edinburgh, and Vienna universities
• Doctorate from University of Leipzig
• Visiting positions at UC Santa Barbara, Aarhus University, Sciences Po Lyon, and CNRS Paris

Her research examines transnational historical frameworks through:

• History of international organizations and transnational actors
• 19th-20th century transregional interrelations in East Central Europe
• History and theory of area studies
• World historiography in US and European contexts
• Concepts of historical globalization and interdependence

She has secured research grants from German Historical Institute (Washington DC), University of Chicago, and European Science Foundation, with current projects analyzing Polish experts in League of Nations/UN secretariats and knowledge circulation in Eastern European historiography.
