Professor Katie Scott is a distinguished academic in the History of Art at The Courtauld Institute of Art since 1988. Specializing in early modern French art and architecture, her work examines the interplay between art objects, their social contexts, and material culture. She holds a BA and PhD from University College London.
Her research focuses on decorative arts, intellectual property law in early modern France, and the role of replication in artistic identity. Notable projects include The Rococo Interior and a forthcoming book on copyright origins. She collaborates in interdisciplinary groups like 'Models and Modelling in Art and Science' and co-leads the Lost Property dictionary project analyzing artists' material legacies.
Professor Scott serves on editorial boards for Perspective and Early Modern French Studies. Her supervision includes over a dozen PhD students researching topics like decorative plasterwork, 18th-century portraiture, and Sèvres vases. Recent work explores Edme Bouchardon’s prints and Chardin’s repetitions, bridging art theory with socio-cultural analysis.
