Katie Reeves

Katie Reeves is a Teaching Fellow and Director of Undergraduate Admissions in Global Sustainable Development at the University of Warwick, joining in September 2023 after teaching roles at the University of Liverpool and University of Lancaster. Her academic background includes a BSc in Earth and Environmental Science, MSc in Volcanology and Geological Hazards, and PhD in Environmental Science.

Her research spans Glaciology and Volcanology with emphasis on particle-ice interactions in cryospheric environments. She investigates how volcanic ash and microplastics impact ice melt behavior through laboratory experiments, addressing implications for climate change, natural hazards, and environmental contamination. Specific interests include cryoconite development, meteorite preservation in Antarctica, and volcanic hazard mitigation in icy conditions.

Her 2022 conference presentation at EGU General Assembly examined volcanic particle properties influencing ice melt, reflecting her focus on micro-scale physical processes in cryosphere systems. This work contributes to broader understanding of climate change impacts on glacial environments and particle contamination dynamics.

As module convenor for Challenges of Climate Change, Dimensions of the Climate Crisis, and other sustainability-focused courses, she mentors undergraduate and postgraduate students in environmental science education. Her teaching integrates volcanology, glaciology, and climate change concepts across multiple degree programs.

She collaborates with researchers including J. Gilbert, S. Lane, and A. Leeson on cryosphere studies, with laboratory-based experimental approaches forming the core of her research methodology.
