Kristin Schild is an Assistant Professor at the Climate Change Institute, University of Maine. Her research focuses on physical glaciology, specifically the environmental controls of ice sheet stability, glacier-ocean interactions, and glacier hydrology. She employs interdisciplinary methods including physics, remote sensing, and earth sciences to analyze meltwater impacts on glacier dynamics and fjord circulation.
Current projects involve characterizing iceberg geometry and melt rates in Greenland using high-resolution in-situ measurements. Past research has spanned Antarctica, Alaska, and Svalbard. Her work emphasizes developing novel data processing techniques and integrating field data with remote sensing imagery.
Based at the Bryand Global Sciences Building in Orono, Maine, Schild's research bridges glaciology with broader environmental systems, contributing to understanding climate change impacts on cryospheric systems.
