Dr. Katie McCarthy is an Assistant Professor of Exercise Science in the Division of Health Sciences & Outdoor Studies at Maryville College. She earned her B.S. in biology with a minor in psychology from Missouri Southern State University, followed by her M.S. and Ph.D. in Sport, Health, and Exercise Science at the University of Arkansas. Her postdoctoral research fellowship was conducted at Harvard Medical School and the University of New England.
Her research focuses on sport-related concussion, integrating principles from neuroscience, kinesiology, and health sciences. This work aligns with her academic background in exercise science and broader expertise in health disciplines.
Dr. McCarthy maintains active professional affiliations and contributes to advancing concussion research in athletic and clinical contexts. She balances her academic pursuits with personal interests in travel, outdoor activities, and visiting U.S. national parks.
