Katie M. Adkison is an Assistant Professor of English at Bates College, specializing in early modern literature and culture. She teaches courses on tragedy, Shakespeare, printmaking, and affect theory. Her research examines intersections between voice, sovereignty, and power in early modern drama. She holds a Ph.D. from UC Santa Barbara (2020), with prior degrees from Colorado State University.

Her current book project, The Sense of Speech: Voice and Sovereignty in Early Modern Tragedy, explores how dramatic tragedy critiqued monarchical power through embodied voice discourses. She also engages in digital humanities, critical making, and letterpress printing practices. Recent work appears in Shakespeare’s Virtuous Theatre: Power, Capacity, and the Good (2023).
