Katie Jukes is a Senior Lecturer at Manchester Law School, Manchester Metropolitan University, working part-time. Her academic background includes Modern Chinese Studies (University of Leeds), Area Studies (SOAS), and legal qualifications including the Common Professional Examination and Legal Practice Course. She holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Education (Distinction) from BPP University and an MA in Creative Writing.
Her research examines socio-legal issues including gender, sexuality, human rights, LGBTQI+ rights, legal ethics, and the intersection of law with language and creative pedagogy. She has contributed to human rights journalism as Editor and Contributor at EachOther.org, focusing on transgender rights, workplace discrimination, and historical LGBTQ+ narratives.
Current projects include the Queer Judgments Project, reimagining legal decisions affecting queer lives through collaborative analysis of landmark cases. Her poetry incorporates legal themes, with works like 'Queen's Gambit Accepted' exploring structural power dynamics.
Her teaching includes Professional Ethics on the Bar Training Course and Public Legal Education projects in the LLB program. She supervises LLM Legal Practice students and maintains active legal credentials as a non-practicing solicitor.
