Katie Jeffery is an Associate Professor of Microbiology and Hospital Epidemiology at the University of Oxford's Nuffield Department of Medicine. She also serves as a Consultant in Clinical Infection and Director of Infection Prevention and Control. Her research focuses on medical microbiology, hospital epidemiology, and clinical infection management, with emphasis on antimicrobial stewardship and infectious disease treatments. Her recent work includes pivotal studies in the RECOVERY trial series evaluating therapies for hospitalized COVID-19 patients, as well as investigations into vaccine response mechanisms in African populations through HLA genetic analysis.
Her academic roles include leadership in the Modernising Medical Microbiology research group. Professional credentials include FRCP (Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians) and FRCPath (Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists).
Key research themes include clinical trials of antiviral agents, optimizing corticosteroid use in severe respiratory infections, and reducing antimicrobial resistance through stewardship programs. Her work bridges laboratory-based research, clinical practice, and public health policy.
