Katie Cortese is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at Texas Tech University's College of Arts and Sciences. She serves as faculty advisor for Harbinger Journal, co-Director of Studio E, and Faculty Director of Texas Tech University Press. Her academic career focuses on creative writing with expertise in fiction and flash fiction.
Dr. Cortese earned her MFA from Arizona State University and PhD from Florida State University. Her educational background has shaped her approach to teaching and writing, emphasizing both technical mastery and creative exploration.
Her research interests center on contemporary fiction, particularly short stories and flash fiction. Cortese explores themes of identity, relationships, and the human condition through innovative narrative structures. Her work often examines the intersection of everyday life with moments of profound emotional significance, creating powerful connections between reader and text. She has developed specialized expertise in flash fiction, contributing significantly to this growing literary form through both her creative work and critical essays.
