Her research focuses on medieval urbanism in Central Asia, particularly examining the impact of Mongol conquests (1219-1250s) on earthen cities. She investigates urban resilience, abandonment patterns, and post-conflict recovery through material evidence analysis. Current work includes the Rivers of the Silk Roads Project studying water management systems along Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers.
Key methodologies incorporate UAV surveys, Structure-from-Motion photogrammetry, and interdisciplinary approaches combining historical texts with archaeological data. Recent publications analyze Mongol-era urban transformations at Otrar, Iron Age domestic economies in Georgia, and digital heritage applications in Tanzania.
Her field projects in Kazakhstan (Otrar), Turkmenistan (Merv), and Azerbaijan demonstrate extensive international collaboration with institutions like Otrar State Archaeological Museum, UCL Centre for Applied Archaeology, and Moscow State University Baku Branch.
