Professor Katie Barclay holds a Professorship and ARC Future Fellowship at the University of Adelaide's Department of History and Archaeology within the School of Humanities. Her work focuses on the history of emotions, gender studies, and family dynamics across Scotland, Ireland, and Britain from the 17th to 19th centuries. She previously led Historical and Classical Studies at Adelaide (2019-2024) and served as Deputy Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence in Emotions History (2019-2022). Educated at the University of Glasgow (PhD in Economic and Social History), she has held fellowships at institutions including the University of Warwick, Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies, and the Centre for Apocalyptic Studies, Heidelberg.
Her research integrates interdisciplinary methods from literature, sociology, and law. Current projects include exploring 'How to Feel Safe at the End of the World' and a Leverhulme-funded study on 'History of Hurt Feelings and the Law'.
