Kathy Goodell is a Professor of Painting and Drawing at the State University of New York at New Paltz, Department of Art. She holds B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees in sculpture from The San Francisco Art Institute. Her work explores the intersection of materiality and illusion through sculpture, painting, and mixed-media installations. Recent exhibitions include over 80 group and solo shows across the U.S., Mexico, Italy, Germany, and England since 2020. Represented by Causey Contemporary Gallery in Brooklyn, her practice focuses on oscillating tensions between creation/destruction, distortion/clarity, and matter/illusion.

Research Interests: Goodell combines optical lenses, motors, and traditional media to create immersive works that challenge perception. Recent works like Cipher (2025) and Tituba's Spell (2024) exemplify her exploration of layered materiality and conceptual ambiguity.
