Dr. Kathy Cologon is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Inclusive Education at Macquarie University’s Department of Educational Studies within the Macquarie School of Education. Her work focuses on inclusive education practices, disability rights, and early childhood development. She has authored a seminal textbook Inclusive Education in the Early Years: Right from the start, widely used globally in teacher education programs.
Her research investigates factors influencing inclusive education outcomes, including disruptive behavior in schools, family perspectives on inclusion, and child-centered approaches. Current studies include an ARC-funded longitudinal project on behavioral factors and a national evaluation of inclusion support systems. Kathy has supervised 11 postgraduate students (7 PhD, 3 Masters, 1 Honours).
Research interests span disability studies, policy implementation, and anti-oppressive pedagogies. Her work emphasizes child participation, equitable curriculum design, and systemic barriers to inclusion. She collaborates internationally on projects like Timor-Leste’s school readiness initiatives and comparative studies between Italy and Australia.
Publications address inclusive literacy practices, creative arts integration, and critical analyses of international education frameworks. Her work bridges theory and practice, advocating for human rights-centered approaches to education equity.
