Kathryn Starkey is the Edward Clark Crossett Professor of Humanistic Studies and a Professor of German in the Department of German Studies at Stanford University. She also holds courtesy appointments as Professor of English, History, and Comparative Literature. Her research focuses on medieval German literature, visuality and materiality, object/thing studies, manuscript illustration, and digital humanities. She has held visiting positions at the Universities of Palermo (2011) and Freiburg im Breisgau (2013, 2018).

Her awards include prestigious fellowships from the National Humanities Center and Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
