Kathryn McDonald serves as the Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of Health Systems, Quality and Safety at Johns Hopkins University with primary appointments in the School of Nursing and School of Medicine. She holds joint appointments in the Carey Business School and Bloomberg School of Public Health, and maintains affiliations with the Malone Center for Engineering in Healthcare, Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality, and Center for Equity in Aging.
Dr. McDonald earned a PhD, Master of Music (MM), and Bachelor of Science (BS). Her research centers on patient-safety systems and healthcare delivery optimization, investigating barriers to achieving safe, affordable, high-quality care across organizational contexts.
Her expertise spans critical domains including:
