Kathryn Mann is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Cornell University and holds the Joyce A. Yelencsics ‘65 & Frederick M. Rosevear ‘64 Faculty Leadership Fellowship. She is affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on geometric topology, geometric group theory, and dynamics, particularly studying actions of infinite groups on manifolds and rigidity phenomena. She explores how geometric or topological structures underpin dynamical rigidity, with projects involving hyperbolic groups, Anosov flows on 3-manifolds, and homeomorphism group structures.
Mann earned her Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Chicago in 2014. Her work bridges abstract spaces and their symmetries, including studies of spaces of group representations and diffeomorphism groups. She has received the NSF CAREER Award, recognizing her contributions to geometric and topological approaches in low-dimensional group actions.
Her recent publications analyze pseudo-Anosov flows, hyperbolic group boundary actions, and rigidity properties of surface group actions. She collaborates on projects like the Communicating Mathematics workshop and directs initiatives such as the Cornell Directed Reading Program. Mann also participates in the Topology Students Workshop and contributes to the Cornell Topology Festival.
