Kathryn Lewis, PhD, MS, is an Assistant Professor in the Exercise Science department at American International College's School of Health Sciences. Before transitioning to academia, she spent 15 years in the business sector, including roles in real estate and event planning. She holds a PhD in Exercise Physiology (Springfield College, 2017), an MS in Health Promotion (Springfield College, 2014), and a BS in Psychology (Denison University, 1992).
Her research focuses on innovative teaching practices in physiology, emphasizing equity and inclusion through Universal Design for Learning frameworks. She advises Exercise Is Medicine® student programs, the Exercise Science Club, and Peer Mentor Program at AIC. Dr. Lewis has held full-time academic roles at Springfield College and Westfield State University, where she chaired the Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Committee.
Her professional development includes certifications in Flipped Learning pedagogy (2019), Safe Zone LGBTQ+ training (2017), and CPR/First Aid (ongoing since 2005). She actively contributes to academic communities like the American College of Sports Medicine and American Physiological Society.
Recent work explores flipped classroom effectiveness in health education and cardiovascular physiology studies. She has presented at conferences including the American College of Sports Medicine Annual Conference and New England Educational Research Organization.
