Professor Kathryn Cowdrick serves as a Professor of Voice and Instructor of Arts Leadership and Vocal Pedagogy at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester. She is on academic leave from Fall 2025 to Spring 2026. A celebrated mezzo-soprano, she has performed in over 40 regional productions, specializing in Rossini and Mozart roles such as Despina (Cosi fan tutte), Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), and the Witch in Hansel and Gretel. Her career highlights include Grammy recognition for the 1984 Antony and Cleopatra recording and a 2007 induction into the National Women’s Hall of Fame for her role in Hoiby’s opera Bon Appetit.
Her teaching spans studio voice, vocal pedagogy, and professional development through the Institute for Music Leadership. She contributes to Classical Singer Magazine and has mentored students now in prestigious programs like the Merola Program and Metropolitan Opera. Her academic leadership includes roles at the Seagle Colony and Taos Opera Institute.
Awards include the Grammy credit and National Women’s Hall of Fame honor. She advocates for singer wellness and career development, emphasizing mentorship and the intersection of arts and leadership.
