Prof. Kathrin Böhm is Dean of the Faculty of Economics and holds the Chair for Art and Business at Alanus University for Arts and Society. Her practice bridges art, economics, and collaborative public projects. She has pioneered initiatives like Myvillages (2003), Company Drinks (2014), and the Rural School of Economics (2020), exploring art’s role in transforming corporate and community contexts. Böhm’s interdisciplinary work includes teaching at institutions such as the Architectural Association School of Architecture (London) and the University of Wolverhampton, where she held a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship.
Her research focuses on redefining economy as a shared cultural realm, emphasizing collective action and sustainable practices. She co-founded the Centre for Plausible Economies to foster interdisciplinary dialogue between research and activism. Key projects include COMPOST (2021), an exhibition blending art and ecological practices, and Keep it Complex – Make it Clear (2016–2021), a project addressing complexity in societal systems.
Böhm’s publications explore art’s intersection with economics, including The Rural (2019) and Icebergian Economies of Contemporary Art (2020). She has spoken globally at conferences like the International Community Economies Conference and serves on the Advisory Panel for Economy the Blockbuster at Manchester Museum. Her work challenges capitalist norms through art-driven, community-centered interventions.
