Kathleen Richardson

Dr. Kathleen Richardson is Professor and former Director of the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Clemson University. She leads the Glass Processing and Characterization Laboratory within the Center for Optical Materials Science Engineering and Technology (COMSET), focusing on synthesis and characterization of novel optical materials.

Her research examines structure-property relationships in glass and ceramic media, with applications in infrared integrated optics, precision molded optics, chem-bio planar sensors using non-oxide glasses, and nanocomposites for detection systems. Recent work includes developing chalcogenide glass waveguide resonators for mid-IR sensing and designing athermal chalcogenide glasses for optical systems.
