Johann Troles

Johann Troles is a Professor at the University of Rennes 1 in the Department of Chemical Sciences. His research focuses on chalcogenide glasses, their synthesis and thermal analysis, and the development of novel optical fibers (microstructured, rare earth doped, and photonic fibers) for infrared applications.

His work explores wavelength conversion, supercontinuum generation, and nonlinear optical properties of chalcogenide materials. He has supervised and co-supervised doctoral students and delivered courses on glass science, optical materials, and solid-state chemistry in both English and French.

Selected publications highlight advancements in fiber design for nonlinear effects, chemical sensing, waveguide fabrication, and mid-infrared supercontinuum generation. These studies span collaborations with institutions across Europe and Australia.
