Dr. Kathleen Fick serves as Chair and Professor of Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics within the College of Business, Technology & Professional Studies at Methodist University.
Her educational background includes:
- B.S. from Buena Vista University
- M.S. from Eastern University
- M.S. and Ph.D. from Auburn University
Her primary research focuses on K-16 mathematics education, specifically examining future educators' mathematical understanding, teachers' content knowledge development, children's algebraic and geometric learning processes, procedural-conceptual error analysis, and manipulative-based pedagogy. Additional interests include STEM critical thinking development, calculus sequence preparation, and mathematical literacy initiatives. Prior research involved pure mathematics investigations of boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations and dynamic equations on time scales.
Dr. Fick teaches across the undergraduate mathematics curriculum including First Year Seminar, College Algebra, Calculus sequences, Differential Equations, History of Mathematics, and specialized courses for future educators.
