معرفی
Kathleen Beavis is a Professor of Pathology at the University of Chicago. Her expertise spans molecular diagnostics, infectious diseases, and global health. She holds key roles in advancing diagnostic methodologies for pathogens like HIV-1, tuberculosis, and SARS-CoV-2. Her research focuses on improving clinical laboratory techniques, antimicrobial stewardship, and public health strategies to combat infectious diseases.
- Education: A.B. in Philosophy (Radcliffe College/Harvard), M.D. (University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine), and postgraduate training in Anatomic Pathology and Medical Microbiology.
Her research interests include molecular diagnostics, global health interventions for infectious diseases, and the development of rapid diagnostic tools. She has contributed to advancements in SARS-CoV-2 detection, HIV diagnostics, and strategies to eradicate toxoplasmosis. Recent work highlights collaborations on gut microbiota’s role in liver disease, Legionella endocarditis, and public health initiatives.
Key awards include the 2019 Trustee position at the American Board of Pathology, the 2016 Distinguished Patient Care Award, and the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award, all from the College of American Pathologists. Her research has been published in high-impact journals such as Nature Microbiology and PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases.
Dr. Beavis is actively involved in collaborative projects, including global health programs targeting toxoplasmosis eradication and initiatives for accurate gestational screening. She leads teams in developing diagnostic algorithms and molecular assays for pathogens, emphasizing rapid detection and public health impact.
